“11 Take-A-Ways” from the Supervisor Training

The following are the “Take-A-Ways” from our CAMPA Supervisor Training on February 28th in Sacramento:

1. Marketing training programs explain that managing drugs in the workplace is like a three-legged stool: a drug testing policy, a training program, a testing program. If you are missing any one of the legs, you are exposing your company to unnecessary risk.

2. When someone in a company says their insurance company provides free online training, ask for the name of the insurance company, ask to see their drug policy and supervisor/employee handbooks. Even if an insurance company does provide free training (which they most likely do not), the company is most likely missing one or more of the three legs of the stool.

3. SAP = Substance Abuse Professional

4. Teenagers who use Marijuana cannot do long term strategic planning, form relationships, set goals, or work in teams later in life. Use after 18 yrs. of age does not seem to have long term effects…it is a maturation issue.

5. Reasonable suspicion defined by Supreme Court is “something more than a hunch”.

6. Cannot do reasonable suspicion testing without a drug testing policy.

7. In order to defeat a WC claim, you need a written policy.

8. Medical marijuana is not accommodated by the State of CA or DOT.

9. A Drug Testing Policy is an insurance policy against litigation.

10. The services AccuDiagnostics offers are education, prevention and testing.

11. If a company does not have a drug testing policy, it is the same as putting a sign over the door saying “Drug Users Welcome Here”.

There was an enormous amount of other information covered in the session. Get your manuals readied for your first training session. Get out and sell, sell, sell and then sell some more.
